Under a bright and sunny day, Tong successfully defended his PhD thesis at Freie Universität Berlin. The defense lasted about an hour and a half and was attended by a wonderful committee: Prof. Dr. Mitja Remus-Emsermann, Prof. Dr. Haike Antelmann, Dr. Steffen Lindner-Mehlich, Prof. Dr. Michael Monaghan, and Dr. Rudolf Otto Schlechter Jahn.

Tong presented his work with confidence and handled the discussion with clarity and insight. After a lively and thoughtful disputation, he was officially declared to have passed the examination.
