Science slams are a way of communicating science and stepping out of the ivory tower of research by presenting one's own work to a general audience. Jan Lukas Krüsemann took on this challenge and presented his research at a sold-out science slam at Hamburg’s scene club Uebel & Gefährlich to 500 people without any specific scientific background.
His talk, titled “Warum ich Bakterien ihren Appetit auf Zucker nehmen will – und wie geht das eigentlich?” (English: “Why do I want to take away the appetite for sugar from bacteria – and how does that work?”), won the prize awarded by the audience.
